Seeking Feedback: Proposed Change to Recycling Schedule

The Town of Tyngsborough is seeking feedback on a proposed change to the recycling schedule to increase efficiency and accuracy of pickups.

Tyngsborough Announcements Posted on November 15, 2024

As a part of the town's ongoing efforts to address the need for reliability and increased accuracy of trash and recycling pickup, the Town is seeking feedback on a proposal to adjust the recycling schedule so that the recycling pickup schedule would be divided into one week for the east side of the bridge and the second week for the west side of the bridge.

In reviewing the most common issues relative to delays in recycling pick-ups and delays collecting "missed pickups", the Town's vendor, Republic Services, proposed switching the recycling schedule so that all residents on one side of the bridge will get their recycling picked up on the same week and the other side will be collected the following week. The number of pickups on each side of the bridge is almost evenly split.

Under this proposal, there would be no change to the number of pickups, no change to the size of the recycling toter, and no change to the allowable materials in the recycling stream. The only change from this proposal would be that some residents will need to adjust to a new recycling week. If the Town moves forward with this proposal, Republic Services will mail every residential unit in Tyngsborough a postcard informing them of the change and letting them know which week their recycling pick up will take place. The Town will also blast the new schedule out via reverse 911, the Town's website and social media, and the Town's new digital message board.

**This will not impact trash pickup**

The current plan is to implement this change effective January 1, 2025.

The proposal has been presented to the Select Board and Board of Health with no adverse comments. We are seeking input from residents about this change. Residents who wish to share feedback should do so by emailing administration@tyngsboroughma.gov. Feedback will be collected until November 29, 2024. Written feedback can also be delivered to the Town Manager's Office or the Health Department at 25 Bryant Lane.

The Town will formally announce the direction of the proposal on December 2, 2024 and if the Town opts to proceed, Republic's mailings will be delivered that same week.
